Kaybree the Angel Killer (series description)

Kaybree is a teenage girl from Nordgard, an alternate history Scandinavia where mythical beings called Angels have protected and guided mankind for millennia--until they started attacking fifteen years ago. Her mother's organization, the Vormund Order, defeated the first Angel attack and has been guarding the borders by the forest ever since.

When Kaybree is called to the city and discovers her ability to transform into a being of fire and lightning, she realizes she is her mother's secret weapon against the Angels. Her mission is to defend humanity from their former protectors while her mother perfects a series of inventions meant to create a better world for everyone. But she soon realizes the situation isn't as simple as her mother wants her to believe. The Angels want to protect humanity as well, and her mother's inventions--or Kaybree's own dangerous powers--could be the reason for their attacks.

Joined by her friends--a bard, a scholar, a reindeer, and a mysterious border guard--Kaybree must battle the Angels while investigating her mother's organization and studying the ancient relics that allow her to use her powers. She knows that there must be a way to reconcile with God's holy messengers, and is determined to find the truth before a war erupts that could end civilization.

Book 1: Kaybree versus the Angels (Book 1)

Kaybree has grown up hearing stories of the Angels, mythical beings who used to defend Nordgard from the creatures of the forest. After leaving mankind without guidance for centuries, they returned fifteen years ago, leaving a fiery swath of destruction. When Kaybree is called to the outpost by the forest, home to her mother's mysterious Vormund Order, she stumbles into the latest Angel attack. Soon she learns that she has the unique power to fight them: the ability to transform into a radiant being of fire and lightning. As she delves deeper into her mother's organization, though, she starts to wonder: why would Angels, holy messengers of God, attack people? Every answer she finds only sparks more questions. Because Vormund holds a deadly secret--one that could change Nordgard and the human
race forever.

Book 2: My Very Own Witch Hunter (Book 2)

Goodreads Link: Not on GR yet...

Kaybree is a Witch, a being born once a century with the power to break the world--a power which she wants to use to cure disease, alleviate suffering, and build a better world. But the Angels, mankind's holy guardians, have the sacred calling to eliminate Witches before they can use their power for evil. As the Angels continue their mission to destroy her, they begin striking at her classmates. As the attacks escalate and a Witch Hunt breaks out in the city, she must balance her need to protect her friends with a strict set of rules to keep herself from harming innocents. But even with good intentions, can a Witch ever use her power for good? Or is she fated to become the monster that the scriptures prophesy?

The War of the Fae #1: The Changelings

The Changelings (War of the Fae, #1)

The Changelings by Elle Casey

My rating: Liked It
YA Fantasy

This story is about a group of unique teenagers (homeless teens) who are abducted when they all go for a job interview.

Mr. Dardennes is not a real bad guy but he is deceiving and manipulating.

He takes the group of kids on a long plane ride and tricks them into drinking something that makes them all fall asleep so they won't know where they are going. They are made to perform a task and when they finish they will be rewarded with $500. Only they are unaware of what the "obstacles" are. They arrive in a Green Forrest and get to choose one weapon. Tony gets a bow and arrow, Jayne a stick etc... Jared is the defacto leader and Spike is another member of the gang. I can't remember all of them only that Tony is Jayne's best friend.

We see Jayne's connectedness to the plants and trees and it's obvious she has some special ability like druids and fairies. I kinda wish that was an established fact but unfortunately it's not clear. The obstacles are dangerous creatures like vampires, witches, gnomes, dwarfs, sea urchins and ocs who get in their way. In the end they have to make a choice either to go home or continue the journey that will reveal who they really are ..... only Tony goes home and good for him. Although it made me sad I was happy for him. I don't know if I should be happy for the others for wanting to be what they were born to be. UGH!

This week I found a book that was meant for me. It's called Kick Your fat in the nuts by T.C Hale! I had just come back from seeing a dietitian- they aren't that helpful, and I was clicking around on twitter when I saw this tweet about a book thinking it was just another fad diet. I clicked it anyway. I'm glad I did.
I'd found out I had type 2 diabetes awhile ago and I took matters in my own hands without the help of doctors and medication. However, I do take high blood pressure medication .

My blood sugar level was 8.8 this morning after not eating anything except a small piece of raw pineapple. BP was 117/70. Yes I know that fruit has a lot of sugar but nobody can tell me that fruit is as bad as a candy bar cause I don't freakin believe it!! I get so mad. Fruit is good for you! I don't care what anybody says! Anyway this book has inspired me to take the necessary steps and gain more knowledge about how to be healthier. Visit the website The ebook is free right now and it's really good. I recommend it for those who want to either lose weight or have poor digestion.  I have very poor digestion that causes constipation and I probably have no gut flora in my stomach either due to antibiotics. My stomach doesn't break down food properly so I've learnt :/

Reflections on Dark Needs at Night's Edge

Dark Needs at Night's Edge by Kresley Cole

Dark Needs at Night's Edge (Immortals After Dark, #5)

Bestselling author Kresley Cole continues her seductive Immortals After Dark series with this tale of a vampire shunned even by his own kind and a beautiful phantom, bound together by a passion they cannot resist.

A RAVEN-HAIRED TEMPTRESS OF THE DARK...
Naomi Laress, a famous ballerina from a past century, became a phantom the night she was murdered. Imbued with otherworldly powers but invisible to the living, she haunts her beloved home, scaring away trespassers -- until she encounters a ruthless
A VAMPIRE WARRIOR CONSUMED BY MADNESS...
To prevent him from harming others, Conrad Wroth's brothers imprison him in an abandoned manor. But there, a female only he can see seems determined to drive him further into madness. The exquisite creature torments him with desire, leaving his body racked with lust and his soul torn as he finds himself coveting her for his own.

HOW FAR WILL HE GO TO CLAIM HER?
Yet even if Conrad can win Naomi, evil still surrounds her. Once he returns to the brutality of his past to protect her, will he succumb to the dark needs seething inside him?

My rating: Liked It

Néomi Laress is a ghost who lives in the same house she was brutally murdered in. Elancourt was a classic gothic estate but is now abandoned.

As a human she was a famous ballet dancer.

Conrad Wroth is a fallen vampire who kills for blood and whose eyes have turned red. Fallen vampires are hunted down by the forebearers because they are dangerous and because the memories of their victims make them crazy.

After Sebastian, Nikolai and Murdoch find their brother, they bring him to Elancourt bound and chained ensuring his safety. I thought it strange that Conrad was the only one who could see .....the beautiful female.

Néomi is a gentle ghost and the most sensual if ever there was such a thing. She could move things with her mind and scared unwanted guests if she had to, but she began having strong feelings for Conrad right from the start and she made him want to be a better person/vampire.

Néomi contacted Mariketa the witch to see about giving her a body. She might be a powerful witch but she could not bring Néomi back from the dead. However she was able to embody Néomi for awhile under the understanding that she would die again very soon . During that short period of time Conrad came back to life. He was blooded and claimed Néomi for himself and eventually got married yadda yadda yadda

I liked all the characters in this book particularly Nix. Who doesn't like her right? She's my favourite.

Desperately Wanting ...Heart of Venom

Heart of Venom (Elemental Assassin #9) by Jennifer Estep

This title will be released on August 27, 2013.
The hotly anticipated ninth novel in the hugely popular Elemental Assassin series finds Gin Blanco on a dangerous mission to rescue a friend.
When a terror from the past threatens Gin’s friend and body-disposer, Sophia, Gin will stop at nothing to protect her, even if it means walking straight into a killer’s trap. Meanwhile, the rocky romance between Gin and Owen reaches a turning point—can they reunite and rekindle their love? Or will the things Gin has been forced to do in her line of work as the deadly assassin the Spider keep them apart forever? Assuming, that is, she survives long enough to find out…

Why I chose this book

Gin Blanco is a kickass assassin who I"ve come to know and love reading about. Her jobs always get her in hot water (sometimes even cold water literally) but she always comes out on top cause she's that good .

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted @ breaking the spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're desperately waiting for.

A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole

A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, #2)

A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole

O my heck!

At first I kept calling it "A love like no other" but we are dealing with monsters and creepy paranormal beasts who are like criminals and psycho's. The type who rape and kill. Well. One was anyway.

“He pointed a shaking finger at her. 'You,' he growled. She jerked glances over both of her shoulders looking for the unfortunate You he was addressing. Her. Holy shite, this madman had settled on her.”
My reading update from page 44 of 356: rape is not sexy nor is it romantic! I am disappointed in this book. So far Lachlain is a big brute monster who rapes and makes demands and orders Emmaline around. NOT.GOOD. Oh and I forgot..... STEALS her credit card!!!!

Turns out, the story wasn't that bad in the end and I absolutely loved the way Kresley Cole kept me turning the pages. It absolutely rocks!

Lachlain , King of the Lykaens, was tortured for 150 years by the head of The Vampire Horde and the oldest and cruelest vampire ever. Demestriu. He is also Emmaline's father.

Emmaline the innocent never knew her father or mother and was fostered by Annika, a Valkyri. She had been protected for 70 years from all others of the lore and raised to never bite another. Until she meets her abducter....

That would be Lachlain. When Lachlain kidnaps her and is close to raping her over and over again(that I hated with a passion) Emmaline is fearful of him and pleads with him to let her go. You must understand where he is coming from. After 15 decades of torture in fire, dying again and again, even a Lykae could lose his mind. Hate and revenge is what kept him sane.
Until he tracks her scent.......

If it weren't for her I don't think he would've ever escaped his torture...She was his salvation.

But O the agony! patiently waiting for him to stop hurting her; and until she fell in love with him, I could hardly bare it. He tried so hard to please her....but failed in O so many ways, until....
- she stepped up to the plate..... - she'd never even played baseball before :p

Yes Emma the braveheart would go down in the pages of history for *cough (a reason I dare not say lest I spoil it) She's a real heroine but aren't all Valkyrie's like that? If you love HEA's you'll love this one.

My rating: I Really Liked It!

About this author

Kresley Cole is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the electrifying Immortals After Dark paranormal series and the young adult Arcana Chronicles. She has also written five award-winning historical romances.

Since her first novel was released in 2003, Kresley has published nineteen books with Simon & Schuster and has seen her releases translated into more than eighteen foreign languages. She has traveled over much of the world and draws from those experiences to create her memorable characters and settings. Two of her favorite places to visit include the rain forests of Central America and the Queensland area of Australia.

Cole’s trademark action, sensuality, and humor are exemplified in her popular Immortals After Dark Series, which revolves around the Lore, a secret stratum of hundreds of immortal creatures--ranging from Vampires to Lykae, Furies to Shifters, and Fey to Valkyrie--that each have their strengths, weaknesses, and age old prejudices against the others. Though they secretly live among humans, they constantly war among themselves, which gives her a lot of material.

In 2007, Kresley won the prestigious Romance Writers of America RITA award for best paranormal for her novel A Hunger Like No Other, and in January 2009, she became a #1 New York Times and Publishers Weekly bestseller with her sixth IAD installment, Kiss of a Demon King. In 2010, Kiss of a Demon King earned Kresley her second RITA award. 2011 brought Cole her second #1 NYT bestseller with Dreams of a Dark Warrior. She lives in Florida with her husband and far too many animals. She spends any free time traveling and enjoys all things related to boats and water.

Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night by Kresley Cole

Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night (Immortals After Dark, #4)

Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night by Kresley Cole

What a beautiful well-written story! It reminds me of Beauty and the Beast sort of.

Bowen MacRieve is a Lykae, a protector to his mate Mariketa, afterall.

Two centuries of his life is totally spent and wasted from grief because of some damn sorceress' spell!! Häxa had enchanted him to Mariah, the fey princess, years ago making Bowen think Mariah was his mate, but it almost destroyed him when she died. Häxa killed her and fed off his grief for centuries!

She also used Bowen to get to Mariketa, the Awaited One. Mariketa is a witch, soon to become a powerful sorceress. They fall in love and this is their story...I LOVED IT!

It's best to read this installment AFTER No Rest for the Wicked .

My rating: Amazing!
